18-12-2020 Bhutan Majesty Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema, His Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel (Born 5 Feb 2016) and His Royal Highness the Gyalsey On National Day His Majesty The King of Bhutan Addressed the people from the Punakha Dzong, also known as the Punthang Dewaichenpoi Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness).
Punakha Dzong is a historic monument and a venue for some of the most sacred events in Bhutan, including Coronations and Royal Weddings. It was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in the 17th Century and served as the centre of administration for the whole country, which was unified into a nation-state by the Zhabdrung.
There was no public gathering this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Royal Address and some of the most important ceremonies from Punakha Dzong were telecast live.
